Avondale First Baptist Men’s Spring Golf Retreat

PRESS RELEASE

The 2012 Avondale First Baptist Men’s Spring Golf Retreat was held May 7TH AND 8TH at Lake Guntersville State Park in Alabama. The spectacular newly renovated lodge presented breath-taking views of the lake for the nearly thirty men who participated. The Eagles Nest golf course, which was hit by tornadoes last year, was in excellent shape. Great weather was provided both days despite earlier forecasts. The food and hospitality were excellent!

Both scrambles on Monday were competitive and all groups survived the “pink lady”. At the banquet, Rev. Rusty Trotter spoke to the group of men on commitment and placing one’s focus on what it is important. The group remembered the passing of Golfer Emeritus Buford Scoggins and past participant Jim Ware and remembered other guest men who have laid a foundation for others. From the Fall tournament, Mike Odum was named as the recipient of the Sandbagger Award for his net 67 score and Robert Smith received the Weedwacker Award with a net 87.

On Tuesday, the golf course proved to be long but provided some participants to rise to the challenge. The overall winner was Jason Godwin who shot an impressive 76. The men raised over $600.00 for youth missions.

The results of the tournaments were as follows:
